Even though March was an incredibly busy month, I made time to have a little fun and pay homage to one of my favorite artists, Frida Kahlo since her exhibit is now showing at the Philadelphia Art Museum. Some other great women in art and I donned Mexican clothes, drank Margaritas and ate Mexican food in her honor. After a few glasses of wine, we even made each other up with Frida's famous unibrow!

What a great weekend showing and selling my art work at Paradocx Vineyard in Landenberg, Pa. Here I am pictured with two of the Docs and partners in the Vineyard, Dave Hoffman and Mark Harris.

I am currently working on illustrating my second book as a freelance project for another author and have been recently given another manuscript for consideration. Interesting, since I never set out to do more than my own book. Be on the look out here for "Can You Guess Where My Grandma Lives?"by Katie Ladd.

Other authors may make their inquiries by contacting me through this website e-mail.

My five year labor of love is finally on sale at Lulu.com. I wrote Millicent and the Faraway Moon as kind of a letter to myself so that I would remember to believe in myself and not listen to the voices of my past that tore me down.

A 40 page children's book fully written, designed, and illustrated by me, it is a tale of a cow who is mired in sadness and defeat. Journey with Millicent as she struggles with self doubt, jealousy and unbelief .Travel along with her and her friend the fourth blind Mouse (whom no one ever hears of) as she perseveres toward finding her true, triumphant, nature.

*Karen is pleased to announce that she is currently being represented by Artiszen Arts Art Gallery 12 Mechanic Street New Hope, Pa.

*Karen won a prize "Most Appealing Sense of Mood" in the Center for Creative Arts current Art Show, "Winter Escape-Tempting the Colors of the Tropics."

*Karen was recently selected and comissioned out of  50  Northeast regional artists applying to create a public art project in Commemoration of Benjamin Franklin's 300th birthday for the Main Line Art Center in Haverford Pa.. Artists were chosen to create a "kite" which will be attached to a 12 foot pole and installed somewhere on the Main Line from March -October 2006. In October, the kites will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. The  idea of a "kite" was open to artistic interpretation. Karen, in typical whimsical style, chose a bovine theme for the project. Her "kite" will be more along the lines of a whirligig or pinwheel. Each kite- like shape of the pinwheel will be 24"x24". They will each be painted with a scene relating to Ben Franklin. i.e., the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall etc., These will turn in the wind and mounted in front of the shapes will be a  fiber glass orange flying Ben Franklin cow complete with  long hair and wire rim glasses!

The kite project titled "Wind Driven" is now installed at the corners of Lancaster Avenue and Bryn Mawr Avenue in front of the Ludington Library in Haverford! It will remain here until October when all of the kites will be auctioned off by the Art Center. When the background turns with the wind, it looks like the Ben cow is flying! 30 other Kites are also installed in the Main Line area. The Center is providing the public with maps to find and enjoy the entire kite project. Below are some photos of Karen's piece.

The Kites were auctioned at a gala fundraiser for the Main Line Art Center at the Radnor Financial Center in Radnor,Pa. Below is a photo of Karen with the winning bidder and some photos of the Gala. The sculpture was won by Ms. Kathy Howell of Berwyn. The sculpture may reside at her home or she may donate it to Agnes Irwin School in Rosemont for the children there to enjoy.
